New Belgium Brewings Team Wonderbike Sets Sights on Doubling Membership...

In celebration of the world's most efficient vehicle, New Belgium Brewing announced today that Team Wonderbike members have pledged to bike more miles than a cycle trip to the moon in the coming year. Team Wonderbike is a pedal-powered bike commuter club whose members have pledged to bike to work at least twice a month in the coming year. More than 7,000 members have currently pledged to ride (rather than drive) 247,086 miles per month, thereby eliminating almost 3 million pounds of CO2 emissions per year.

"We have enough miles pledged right now to get a cyclist to the moon, theoretically," said New Belgium Spokes Model, Bryan Simpson. ""But we're really hoping to double that so we can bring this metaphor back home to planet earth."

Team Wonderbike launched in 2005 and encourages members to develop sleek, sexy legs--while also cutting CO2 emissions and freeing themselves from bumper-to-bumper commuter traffic. New Belgium hopes to raise awareness of Team Wonderbike and double the commuter corps membership in 2007 through a series of web and live event promotions.

"We have folks signing up every day, taking the pledge, and then writing in to tell us about their commute," said Simpson. "It's a real community of dedicated people but it's funny - no one really considers it a sacrifice. Mostly they write to say how much they enjoy riding their bike to work."
