At the annual ASHP Summer Meeting and Exhibition, Baxa Corporation is promoting the benefits of specialty pharmacy software, USP 797 compliance training and medication validation equipment for improving pharmacy operations and reducing the opportunity for medication errors. During the three-day exhibition, Baxa will demonstrate the capabilities of the latest release of its Abacus TPN order entry and calculation software.
The Baxa sales team also will discuss the pharmacy training programs available at its Skills Training, Academics and Resources (STAR) Center. Among the equipment available in the booth
for demonstration during the show is the ValiMed Medication Validation System, distributed by Baxa Corporation.
The San Francisco meeting serves as the launch for a new online training program that Baxa is marketing - CriticalPoint. This step-by-step, online training consists of 32 individual
modules that build a foundation of best practice for pharmacists and technicians involved in sterile compounding. The CriticalPoint curricula were developed by industry experts as a
cost-effective means to comply with the aseptic training requirements for USP 797. The modules complement the hands-on training offered through the Baxa STAR Center
Also featured at the ASHP meeting is the ValiMed Medication Validation System. ValiMed uses enhanced photoemission spectroscopy to validate high-risk medication admixtures and returned
narcotics to provide an increased level of patient safety. Manufactured by CDEX Inc., the system compares a medication's spectroscopic signature to the unit's Medication Signature
Library, returning an easy-to-understand audible and visual 'validated' or 'not validated' result.
ValiMed is the only system that provides real-time validation of medication and concentration, giving pharmacists a tool for med error prevention, as well as auditing narcotic returns.
Reports generated from validation results facilitate compliance with USP 797 quality assurance requirements.
