Grande Dunes Marina Officially Welcomes First Boat On May 18 2005

May 27, 2005 -- The first boat cruised into Grande Dunes Marina Wednesday, May 18, 2005, signaling the official opening of what will soon be the Intracoastal Waterway's newest and most exciting destination, according to developer Burroughs & Chapin's Executive Vice President/Grande Dunes Dowdell Brown. The Grande Dunes Marina is the first and only marina within the city of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and it offers the finest full-service boating facilities on the East Coast.

The first vessel to dock at the Marina was "Fear Knot," a 51-foot Bertram Yacht, distinguished by its stylish flying bridge, fishability and seaworthiness. "Fear Knot" powered south along the Waterway to the Marina and entered after passing under the Grande Dunes landmark bridge about 5 p.m.

With state-of-the-art floating docks, the marina offers 130 slips directly on the Waterway, including 18 for transient guests, and can accommodate vessels up to 110 feet.

"But it's the Marina's unsurpassed four-star customer service experience that really sets it apart," said Jay Smith, Marina Village project manager. "Upon arrival, every boat will be met by at least two uniformed dockhands who'll help you tie up and get your connections made. You're then introduced to the harbormaster, who'll extend a warm welcome to the facility."

The Marina will also feature many exceptional amenities, including wireless Internet service and premium cable with HBO at the slips. A continental breakfast is offered each morning along with a complimentary newspaper. The Ships Store will feature an impressive variety of clothing and accessories, fishing and marine items, a laundry room, dry cleaning service, plus clean restrooms and showers. The Office Center, with computer, copier and fax services, meets the business needs of the Marina customer.

The Marina is in the first phase of development of the Grande Dunes Marina Village which will include the Marina Inn, retail shops and restaurants.

The Marina is the latest upscale amenity at Grande Dunes, a luxury, master-planned resort/residential community encompassing approximately 2,200 acres of prime coastal real estate in Myrtle Beach. Grande Dunes stretches from almost one mile of frontage on the Atlantic Ocean to a thousand acres on the western side of the Intracoastal Waterway.

"At Grande Dunes, we have a $25-million Ocean Club with approximately a quarter-mile of beach and a magnificent ocean-front pool, as well as outstanding food service," said Brown. "We also have an award-winning resort golf course at Grande Dunes Golf Club, which is just a short drive over our signature Intracoastal Waterway bridge. Our private Members Club - an 18-hole championship golf course designed by professional golf star Nick Price - is slated to open in June 2005."
