Fragments of Hope Author Deborah Ann Hurley Helps 19 Million Affected by Depression Reclaim Their Lives

Battling a severe depression for over a decade, first time author Deborah Ann Hurley reveals exactly how the depressed mind thinks in her January 2007 release, Fragments of Hope. Based on over eleven years of journals, this book provides an unflinching look at living with this silent killer.

According to the National Institute of Health, 18.8 million Americans have been diagnosed with a depressive disorder, a rampant condition that costs over $43.7 billion annually, according to government estimates.

I wanted to give depression a voice, claims Hurley, a married mother of two from Saint James, New York. I was tired of reading books that were written by doctors or celebrities. I wanted to hear from someone who was just like me. Entire families are affected by this disease. My book is designed to expose the painful truth about living with severe depression and to offer those suffering tremendous hope during a very dark time in their lives.

Although Hurley began suffering with postpartum depression after the birth of her children, she believes that her illness was in her long before she became a mother.

As devastating as depression is, people who are suffering with this illness do not have to lose everything in their lives.

Hurley's dream is to encourage and inspire women who are struck with this illness to never stop fighting. Children need their mothers and my goal is to help guide moms back to their families by saying I've been there, I survived and you can too.

It is because of my dark journey that I have become the person I am today, admits Hurley. But, I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world.
