"I've been entered for several book awards, and so far have only received honorable mentions," says the author, "I was happy with those, but I am thrilled to win best teenage book at the New York Book Festival! That means I get to do a reading in Central Park! Imagine that!"
The Book festival was held June 28, 2008, cut short by a thunderstorm; but not before the cameras clicked frantically and Dyan did her presentation.
'Surfer Girl' by Penelope Dyan is recognized by the Girls Voices In Literature Database, Miami University, Florida, and is the first book in a series of books about Summer, an open water swimmer who surfs and swims and has an Olympic dream, and who is out to save the creatures of the world's oceans!
'Surfer Girl' is a book targeted at the teen-aged reader, but it is also a book adults enjoy reading," says Bellissima's vice president and editor, Jill Lapp.
"Mother's even have their sons reading this book because Summer has the perfect boyfriend," adds Weigand, who describes Summer as an ordinary girl with an extraordinary life and adds, "you can't go wrong with a Bellissima book!"
All Bellissima books are Ingram listed.
