Confabulations A Long Poem by evvy garrett An Epic that is Bound to Inspire Poets Writers and the Rest of Us

May 18, 2005 -- Confabulations seemed to take forever to complete, perhaps even a lifetime, or least so it felt. At times, there was real doubt that the epic would ever get out of the desk drawer, let alone reach completion.

Over the years, during its writing, one part or another of Confabulations was performed at different poetry readings, to diverse audiences, in the hopes of getting a 'fix' on the poem as a whole. Where the epic started and ended was always obvious, from its conception; but like life, it was the rest of it - the stuff that was between the beginning and ending - that was so time consuming and perplexing. And that, of course, is where the 'story' is.

Confabulations was inspired mainly, by Walt Whitman's 'voice'. Also by Li Po's 'insights', John Berryman's more obtuse works and by many of the other post-modern American poets, all the way up to the poets of today like Lo Verne Brown and Steve Kowit. Yet, Confabulations is a 'copy' of none of these, but a 'blending' of many life-lessons learned, combined with traditional poetic techniques, all pulled together seamlessly, with a deft touch.

Maybe because of its eclectic 'parentage', Confabulations: A Long Poem, tells a haunting story and will entertain and intrigue poet and non-poet alike. It may even prove an inspiration to anyone who loves words, drama, and life.
