Writers Tell what Prompted Them to Write Their Titles
May 26, 2005 -- Writers Talk--First Stage is written by authors about their titles. It's a new feature at WritersWest.com--a consignment bookstore. If you've ever wondered how western writers come up with their ideas, this is where you'll find the motivation that got a book started.
The new pages came online in March, and feature a weekly article by a Writers West author about one of their titles. The articles are archived, so readers can easily find previous author comments. These aren't reviews or publisher's blurbs. The authors give interesting and sometimes witty details about how their book idea came about. Writers Talk also makes authors more accessible to their readers. Each article contains contact information with the authors through links to their official Web sites as well as to their Writers West bookshelves.
"As a writer, I'm always interested in what prompts other writers to their stories," says bookstore owner, Karyn Cheatham. "I've learned a lot about the authors who have their books at Writers West by reading the back stories they send."
At Writers West, where all the books are about some facet of the American West, it's often a small segment of history that spawns a story. But when the history is so vast and complex, it's interesting to learn what drew an author to one particular aspect of it. Some authors have a character in mind, while others are drawn first to the land, or a certain era of history. The offerings so far at Writers Talk--First Stage give background to fiction and nonfiction books, Old West sagas and romance stories.
