New Alien Invasion Adventure is a Fun Filled War of the Worlds for all Ages

June 27, 2005 -- Invading aliens from outer space Am I talking about the new Tom Cruise/Steven Spielberg scifi epic "War of the Worlds" No, I'm talking about the new scifi alien invasion adventure graphic novel "G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures" by writer Darryl Hughes and artist Monique MacNaughton.

What is "GAAK" It's like "ET"--With teeth. It's like "The Gremlins" if they came from outer space and had great comic timing. "GAAK" is what you get when you mix Steven Spielberg's "The Goonies" with classic 50's style creature feature movies like "The Invaders from Mars".

When aliens from outer space invade a small suburban town called Eden'sVille and hatch a fiendish plot to take over the earth and meet the original cast of "Star Trek", four pre-teen friends named Zach, Jemmy, Plato, and Chubs lead an elite strike force of 6th grade misfits, armed with super soaker water guns and a full arsenal of dairy products, against the aliens in order to save the world from invasion. And they'll try to do it all before bedtime--Because tonight's a school night. Small towns, clever kids, super computers, paranoid army guys, kooky aliens, fanatical William Shatner fans from outer space, and Elvis lives right up the block. That's "G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures".

Originating online as a popular webcomic in 2003, "GAAK" is now published through Lulu Press. And it immediately began to garner the praise of both reviewers and scifi fans alike who followed it's evolution from web to print. The Sequential Tart wrote of "GAAK":

"It's a fresh take on classic themes. And if Hughes' quirky humor or creepy horror stylings wasn't enough, MacNaughton's inks are nothing short of stunning"

The Independent Comics Front wrote of "GAAK":

"Heavy comedy, back to back okes, stabs at mlitary officers that should have found their way into Dr.Strangelove, and all around good wholesome entertainment."

And the Webcomic Book Club raved:

"Imagine Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton having a love-on and doing a UFO invasion epic with ordinary kids as the heroes"

"G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures" by Darryl Hughes and Monique MacNaughton. It's a groovy ghoulie grab bag of scifi hysteria. Available now from Lulu Press and at better book stores everywhere.
