Exciting New Mystery A Jaded Affair Now in Print
June 26, 2005 -- An exciting new mystery by John M. Prophet, "A Jaded Affair," in the Casey Miller mystery series, is now in print.
The author has also written "Mystery at Salt Marsh Bridge,"Body in the Salt Marsh,"Mystery at the Salt Marsh Winery," and "Body in the Salt Marsh Boatyard." In each of these books, Prophet's intention is to portray teenagers in a positive light. Casey Miller and Lexie Wentworth, his two characters, are curious, persistent, and courageous. With his unique style, he makes it interesting to see how the two sleuths progress in their lives as a result of their experiences.
In the beginning, at age fourteen, in "Mystery at Salt Marsh Bridge," they are naive about getting into the middle of serious criminal action. By the time they reach age seventeen, in "A Jaded Affair," they are old hands at solving crimes. The media covering the stories think of them as clever crime solvers, but they wonder if they are cursed. No matter where they are, in Elm Grove, their hometown, or vacationing on Cape Cod, they are thrown into dangerous situations. They have choices. They can pursue seemingly innocuous leads or ignore them. When they find dead bodies, they can let the authorities handle the crime or they can go deeper. Fortunately, or unfortunately, their curiosity always wins out.
Prophet has been actively engaged in the national Kids Love A Mystery program sponsored by the Mystery Writers of America. Most recently, he spoke to one hundred seventh graders in New Bedford about mysteries. The students were awarded Eddy Certificates (named for Edgar Allan Poe) after a month in which they read mystery stories. Prophet is no stranger to the classroom. He holds a masters degree in special education from Boston University. He taught in public schools and in a private psychiatric clinic. He won first place for his poem submitted to the Orleans, Mass. Cultural Council juried show, and a fourth place for his short story "The Case of the Poisoned Cat" in the mystery category awarded by Writefromhome.com. He is retired and living on Cape Cod with his wife, Ellen. Prohpet's books are available for order at bookstores, Amazon.com BarnesandNoble.com and iUniverse.com.
