Registration Opens for Lumos 2006 A Harry Potter Symposium
For Harry Potter fans, July 31 is a legendary date.
Not only was the world's most famous boy wizard born at the month's close, but so was his creator, celebrated author J.K. Rowling. It's fitting, then, that the lights should come up on Lumos 2006: A Harry Potter Symposium on such a hallowed date.
Registration for the symposium, which hits Las Vegas, NV July 27-30, 2006, officially begins Sunday, July 31 and can be accessed through Lumos' official website at http://lumos2006.org/registration.shtml .
Planners hope fans will commemorate the occasion with a little Lumos magic - so much so that the registration staff is offering a discounted rate of $125 until midnight October 31, 2005, when the fee will increase to $140, to help celebrate both Harry and J.K. Rowling's birthdays.
"Registering for Lumos is a great way to ring in Harry's birthday!" says conference chair (aka Minister of Magic) Debbie McLain. "After all, our 'Back to School' theme includes some of Harry's favorite things: the Common Room, Hogsmeade Weekend, Butterbeer, feasts in the Great Hall and, of course, (Water) Quidditch."
Those and many other highlights are included in basic registration, which consists of:
* Admission to all formal programming sessions
* Admission to all informal programming sessions, including Water Quidditch, Live Chess, Magical Night Classes, Movie Nights and Hogsmeade Weekend Trip.
* Admission to Common Room, Art Gallery/Library, and Vendor Room
* Admission to Welcoming and Leaving Feasts
* Two continental breakfasts
Registrants can also opt to purchase tickets to Special Guests luncheons on Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29. Speakers will be announced at a later date.
The symposium is open to all persons age 18 and older. Interested individuals between the ages of 14 and 18 must be accompanied by a registered parent or guardian. Alternately, those minors can attend Lumos if they have a notarized, signed parental permission slip appointing a chaperone who is at least 21 years old and will also be attending the event.
After over a year's worth of proposals and preparations, Lumos staffers are eager to finally welcome the public to register for classes, so to speak.
"We have so much planned," says McLain. "From a full range of academic programming to sporting events to free time in the Common Room, it's a can't-miss experience for Harry Potter enthusiasts. We're very excited about everything we have on tap for the symposium and thrilled to invite the public to join in on the fun!"
