A Family Tale for Those Who Want to Take Over the World

In "Emperor Dad," the first of the Small Town, Big Ideas series, James Hill's life as a high school athlete was upended in an auto accident that was much more than it seemed. But hacking the family computer led him to discover the mysterious and dangerous life hidden behind his father's 'consulting' business. Dad had invented teleportation, and was on a collision course with all the world's governments. Only James and his wristwatch had a chance to avert world wide catastrophe and the destruction of his family.

In addition to Emperor Dad, two more novels are scheduled for release, with more to come.

"I've been to all states, and many countries, and there are wonderful small towns everywhere, like jewels in the sand. I fall in love with a place, and it becomes a second home-town to me. The stories may lead to other planets or other times, but they all start here," Melton said.

Henry Melton has been a contributor to premier science fiction magazines such as Analog, and well known anthologies such as Christmas Stars and There Will Be War since the 1970's. In recent years he has concentrated on science fiction novels inspired by the juveniles of Heinlein and Norton that brought him into the field in the first place.

With his nature-photographer wife, Mary Ann Melton, it's "have laptop, will travel", and often his writing is done with his computer resting on the steering wheel while she frames her photos. "We've been on the road more than half the time, attending science fiction conventions and visiting wildlife refuges. This fall we're looking forward to a month touring and teaching in Africa."

Describing the series Small Towns, Big Ideas, Melton says, "Science fiction sets the best stage for dealing with big ideas while telling an entertaining story, and starting with a modern kid makes the tale accessible, even to readers who'd never touched science fiction before. I've been very pleased that half the comments by early readers talk about 'fast paced adventure' and the others talk about 'great ideas'."
