AuthorsTalk.com: Where did you grow up, and have reading and writing always been a part of your life

Samuel Blankson: I grew up in Ghana, West Africa. I remember my first real memory of ever reading a book. I was seven years old and playing truant from school. Fortunately, for me, I got bored because of no other children to play with and I wondered into a library. That was the turning point in my life. In that library that day, I discovered books. I started with Enid Blyton and literally read every book she ever wrote in a very short period. After exhausting that source, I moved on to many other authors and writing styles. I have always been a voracious reader since I was seven.

AuthorsTalk.com: What made you decide to begin writing

Samuel Blankson: I was asked by a colleague for some financial advice, this led to me drafting a rather lengthy email explaining and advising him on debt management. A few weeks later, another associate asked for the same advice. As I looked over the email before sending, I was struck by the quality and depth of the advice. I realized that this could become a very good book. That was when "How to destroy your debts" was born. Once I started, I did not want to stop.

AuthorsTalk.com: Who and/or what have been your biggest influences with regard to your writing and why

Samuel Blankson: Hmmm, I guess that would be my father. He is also an author. The countless thousands of books, I have read have also played a role in influencing me, but I guess my greatest influence has been the support from my wife through the years. She has always believed in me and voiced this regularly.

AuthorsTalk.com: In "Living the Ultimate Truth", you talk about all the virtues and universal principles that we need to return to a balanced, harmonious, and happy life. What are some of these And how are they applied to life

Samuel Blankson:I think the fundamental and most important one is Love. Without this, all the others will amount to nothing. Second, to love is belief. Without belief, you will not take any action and thus share your love. Everything that we do or not do stems from our belief system. Without a positive belief system, you will become a failure and possibly a menace to yourself and to society. Many people think that having material possessions is the way to happiness; with time, they will discover that Gratitude is the key to happiness. Gratitude is an Attitude, another one of these universal fundamentals. This book is my wife's favorite book. She cried whilst reading it because it touched her so deeply.
