Marietta Georgias East Cobb Borders a Roaring Success for Atlanta Authors...

Overcast skies and threatening rain clouds must be the perfect weather for a book-signing event on a Saturday afternoon in Marietta, Georgia. At least that proved to be true for Atlanta's own Darlene F. Wofford, author of "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember." The Borders, located at The Avenue of East Cobb, was continuously busy Saturday afternoon, and the author was there from 1-4:00 greeting customers and signing her novel. During the three hours both the store and the author were pleased that the supply on hand almost sold out. She was told it was one of the most successful book-signings the store had sponsored for a local author, and she was asked to consider returning on a Saturday in December during the holidays.

"An Assignment to Remember" is the first of three novels in the author's "Edgewise" series, with "Seven Years 'Til Sunrise" scheduled for release next year, followed by "Hummingbird Heart" in 2009. The term "Edgewise" is used to describe a shattered young woman's state of mind, driven to the edge by back-to-back traumas. Her mind has shut down to block out the memories of those life-altering experiences, however other memories are blocked, as well. Her denial and bruised psychological state, coupled with her silence prevent progress in therapy until the psychiatrist gives the assignment--an assignment to remember and write about her first memories. Her first memory is the vision of her father and herself as a little girl. A floodgate of memories unfold onto the pages over the next several months, such that she is retrieved from the edge to which she had been driven. Based on true events in the author's life, the novelized story as told through the eyes of her alter ego, Delaney Rutherford, is "an emotional journey of laughter, sorrow, and hope," as Denna Shelton of Twenty Gems recent review summed it up so nicely. "An Assignment to Remember" is not as much about the traumatic events as it is an inspiring story of healing progression and recovery, as well as a man's unconditional love for a woman. To quote Jim Cox of Midwest Book Review: "A candid and engaging account of both the tragic and the triumphant, "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember" is deftly written and very highly recommended reading. The first volume of a planned trilogy, "Edgewise" is an inspired tribute to the strength of the human spirit, and of working through a process of recovery to eventually overcome the wounds that life can inflict upon us without warning."

Atlanta natives, Darlene and her husband, Carl, reside in Acworth, as do their sons, Kenneth and Cory. She has been in the mortgage industry for two decades, and is the Graduate Division Director for London Image Institute, from which she graduated in 2004 as a certified image consultant. She co-hosted an hour-long Saturday morning Atlanta talk radio show called "Your Inner Voice," and has been interviewed recently by several Atlanta radio stations regarding her novel.

The next stops for the author's book tour is Waldenbooks at One CNN Center in downtown Atlanta on Saturday, July 27th from 12-2:00, (404-659-1949). She will then be appearing from 2-4:00 the next afternoon, Saturday, July 28th at Borders on Barrett Parkway, located near Towne Center Mall in Kennesaw, GA, (678-581-1243).
