A Baltimore County Judge awarded $6,000,000 to a Dundalk couple who were severely injured when a robber fleeing a holdup in a stolen car crashed into their motorcycle (case number
03-C-05-010130 MT in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County).
Mark Honaker, a Baltimore City Police detective, was operating his motorcycle with his wife Sheri sitting behind him on Martin Boulevard when they were struck by an oncoming car driven by
Karim Rahman, brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Hassim Rahman. Karim Rahman had recently stolen the vehicle after robbing a convenience store and was fleeing police at the
time of the occurrence. He is currently serving a twenty year prison sentence in the Maryland Department of Corrections.
Karim Rahman did not contest the lawsuit filed by the Honaker'ss attorneys at the law firm of Ingerman & Horwitz, LLP. Rahman was not insured at the time of the accident and the
Honaker'ss attorneys indicated that it is unlikely that any part of the judgment will be collectable from him. Hassim Rahman, however, stated at his brother'ss sentencing (case number
03-CR-3232 in the Circuit Court of Baltimore County) that he would donate a percentage of the rest of my career for (the Honakers) family to offset some of the financial burden to the
family. To date, Hassim Rahman has not contacted the Honakers or their attorneys regarding this promise.
