Tour will Educate on Small Business
May 11, 2005 -- Twenty two million small businesses employ more than 51% of the work force, generate more than 52% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product and are the principle source of new US business. In excess of 60% are started, owned and operated by women (according to the Small Business Administration). Less than 3% of the venture capital available is funneled toward female ventures!
Consider those facts while you type "FDIC and bank wrongdoing against customers" in your Google search engine. You'll come up with about 1,600 results. That's all Why
Margaret E.J. Broderick kicks off a 32 city, 18 month tour this month across the US and overseas to share the education in Passion v. Arrogance, a small business tale that chronicles the eight years from start up to international business.
This true "Dana & Goliath" saga tells of a woman owned winery and the tough decision to cease operations, only to have to battle with their financial institution's breach of contract from a logical and reasonable process. The hard work and equity is destroyed by the arrogance of an organization struggling with their own issues, and continues with the only jury trial against a financial institution in the US.
The result is a journey that is hopeful and passionate in the face of destruction and arrogance: a must for those interested in educating themselves and their audience about protecting their own business, planning to secure outside funding, wine lovers who want to truly understand the fruits of the labor and anybody who enjoys a local, well established community business and is concerned about the future of American Business.
Broderick deals with the current economic factors, the fall out of 9/11 on small business and conservative nature of organizations that cautiously choose to work with entrepreneurial ventures. She recounts the mental, physical, emotional and financial risk of a small business and how, regardless of the outside factors, remaining true to your own vision and passions will carry you through any of life's challenges.
As Margaret has said, "When you are getting bitch-slapped with a fish, you have to say something's smelly."
