HR NY Supports Operation Backpack 2005



May 26, 2005 -- HR/NY is committed to officially serving the community and fostering educational opportunities in the NYC area. To better link business and education, HR/NY is a proud participant in Operation Backpack. Operation Backpack assists thousands of homeless and disadvantaged children in New York City who return to school without the basic supplies they need to start the year right. Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack engages New York-based companies and residents to donate backpacks and school supplies. These supplies are then distributed
to students in need.

HR/NY's efforts are part of a larger national program encouraged by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). SHRM recently launched their Workforce Readiness initiative to build strategic alliances between business and education, and create communities that work.

"It makes sense for organizations to partner with the educational community," said HR/NY President-elect Lorri Zelman. "Today's students
become tomorrow's workforce. If we want our future employees to have knowledge and skills, we need to get involved with today's students.
Providing school supplies to those in need eliminates distracters and enables the students to focus on what matters - their education."

Individuals interested in participating in Operation Backpack 2005 can bring an empty backpack to HR/NY's June 16th luncheon at the New
York Helmsley Hotel. School supplies are also welcomed. To gain more information on involving your organization in Operation Backpack, please
