Nancy L Hormann Named New President And CEO Of The Downtown Raleigh Alliance

June 19, 2005 -- John Boylan, Chairman of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, has announced that after an extensive search led by Conway and Greenwood, Inc., an executive search firm located in Raleigh, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce Nancy Hormann as the organization's new President & CEO. Hormann will be relocating to Raleigh from Dallas, TX, and will officially assume the post in mid July. In making the announcement, John Boylan said, "Nancy brings a high level of energy and excitement to her position and a can do attitude based on team work and collaborative problem solving. We are fortunate to have Nancy coming to Downtown Raleigh."

Hormann has 18 years of downtown economic development experience ranging from small towns to large cities in California and Texas. Among her professional roles, Hormann served as the Executive Director for the City Center Partnership in San Francisco, the Sacramento Downtown District, and the Solvang Conference and Visitors Bureau in Solvang, CA.

For the past three years, Hormann served as the Executive Director for the Central Dallas Association (CDA) and was responsible for the revitalization of the Main Street Retail Project and management of the City Center Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District. Through downtown marketing initiatives, public relations, and a special events series to promote Downtown Dallas, Hormann's vision led to a 2004 International Downtown Association Outstanding Achievement Award for Main Street District Marketing.

During her tenure in Dallas, Hormann worked with developers and the TIF District to convert nearly $3 million square feet of abandoned office buildings into marketable residential, hotel, and retail space. She also obtained a grant of $2.5 million from the City Center TIF District to create an incentive program to attract retailers to downtown. Through the TIF District, Hormann also helped revive an urban living area once considered blighted and unpleasant. By creating innovative marketing programs, a desirable built environment, and building consensus through the Downtown Residents Council, she was able to promote a quality of life that evokes positive word of mouth and fosters market demand. Under Hormann's leadership, CDA helped to maintain a 90% occupancy rate in the 1,600 newly-renovated downtown urban lofts, apartment homes, and condominiums.

Prior to that Hormann was recruited by the International Downtown Association and joined their organization to lead the effort to form 12 Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) throughout California, including: San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. In this position, Hormann achieved a 100% success rate for establishing the BIDs.

David Feehan, President of the International Downtown Association, described Hormann as a consummate professional. He said, "She's helped many downtowns across the United States to create and sustain downtown management programs. Her upbeat demeanor and depth of knowledge should help Downtown Raleigh realize its tremendous potential."
