The 6th Annual Astra Women'ss Business Alliance Golf Scramble was held at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in late July. This very successful networking event was sponsored by the San Jose Water
Company, A.T.&T., Ellen Michaels Presents, and InstaFoto. It was attended by a number of Bay Area business owner members of Astra (e.g. Smooth Sales and Kearney & Associates: The
Experts's Alliance) and by representatives of such companies as Office Depot and Verizon.
The winners of the Scramble were members of a combined team representing R.J. Roberts and Ellen Michaels Presents which had the lowest score of the day -- a 63 for the 18 holes. Although
the matches were played in 103 degree heat, it didn'st seem to faze these golf enthusiasts at all.
Before the matches began, Suzanne Woo of Biz Golf provided tips on how to network on the golf course, and following the final event, Astra guests attended an Awards Banquet at which Laura
Zahtila of Zahtila Vineyards provided a wine-tasting of her finest wines plus a lesson on wine etiquette. Laura Zahtila'ss company is the first woman owned vineyard to be certified under
the WBENC certification program by Astra which serves six states and has offices in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and San Leandro, California.
During the evening festivities, a putting tournament was held which resulted in a Sudden Death playoff between Tanya Nixon of San Jose Water Company and Jana Elizalde of R.J. Roberts.
Jana Elizalde won the contest while a gallery of players and guests looked on.
Each team received a team photo and a monogrammed name plate both of which were provided by InstaFotos another Bay Area Astra certified company. It was no wonder that people asked Diane
McClelland and Suzanne Lackman (President and Vice-President of Astra) if this event would be repeated next year.
