Columbus Chamber of Commerce to Issue Economic Forecast

In the midst of a faltering national economy, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce (http://www.columbus.org/) will issue its 10th annual BlueChip Economic Forecast at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 18 at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Columbus, 33 E. Nationwide Blvd.

Bill LaFayette, Ph.D., vice president, economic analysis, Columbus Chamber, will present the Chamber'ss 2009 employment forecast for the Columbus region, and will discuss the prospects for the region'ss key industry sectors (http://www.columbus.org/economic-development/economic-strategy/). The forecast is the average of four independent forecasts by LaFayette; Joseph Mandeville, assistant vice president, Red Capital Group; George Mokrzan, Ph.D., vice president, senior economist, Huntington Bancshares, Inc.; and James Newton, Ph.D., chief economic advisor, Commerce National Bank.

Despite the steady decline in employment at the national level during 2008, early indications are that the Columbus region will register a small employment gain for the year. The coming year will present challenges for continued growth, however, as national output and employment continue to decline, said LaFayette. At the Columbus Chamber (http://www.columbus.org/about-the-chamber/), we will continue to focus on key industries, such as logistics (http://www.columbus.org/economic-development/logistics/), with the strongest long-term growth potential in our market.
