NCDOT to Add Temporary Signals and Shift Traffic on Cary Parkway Overpass

June 25, 2005 -- The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will install temporary traffic signals on the Cary Parkway overpass of U.S. 1/64. Work will take place Friday, June 24 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Traffic will be shifted on the Cary Parkway over U.S. 1/64 from Saturday, June 25 from 8.p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, June 26 to allow for widening of the overpass bridge. During the hours of the temporary signal installation and the traffic shift, traffic on Cary Parkway will be limited to one lane in each direction. On-site construction personnel will be directing traffic on Saturday night, during signal installation and pavement marking.

The U.S. 1/64 widening project is a $58 million project, that is anticipated to be completed in late 2006 and will improve U.S. 1/64 from south of the I-40 interchange to the U.S. 64/Tryon Road interchange in Cary.

The NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert in the U.S. 1/64 work zone, obey the posted speed limit of 55 mph, be aware of construction workers and watch signs for construction information. The fine for speeding in the work zone is $250 and three driver license points.
