Passport Service Offers Tips for Meeting New International Travel Requirements



In response to numerous requests from travelers confused about what exactly they need or do not need to travel by air from the United States to the regions covered under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, Texas Tower has put together a handy tip sheet that is available as an easy download from their site for free.



The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)was enacted in Spring 2008 and currently affects only individuals that are traveling by air in or out of the United States in the following: Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and 17 regions in the Caribbean.



"One of the frustrations we see travelers have on a frequent basis is that many times they aren't prepared to meet the requirements for international travel as it is now required" stated Sergio Garcia, CEO of Texas Tower. "They remember their last trip to Mexico or the Caribbean and all these requirements didn't need to be met. That's why we created a sheet that visitors to our site can view, download or print and know exactly what they need to have in order to travel to anywhere that is covered under the WHTI".



Currently the WHTI, enacted in Spring 2008, only affects travelers that are arriving or leaving the United States by air. In June 2009, that initiative will be expanded to cover both travelers that are arriving at their destinations by land and sea. This will affect vehicles traveling into both Mexico and Canada as well as travelers that are traveling to ports of call by boat, this included cruise ships.
