PowerPay Ontario Approved by OPA

Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (www.powerpayontario.ca) (ECS) is pleased to announce that the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has approved ECS' PowerPay! Ontario demand response programme to be administered in Ontario, Canada. This programme was developed under a contract signed between the parties and involves ECS providing 25 MW of demand response resources to the OPA.

ECS, based in Buffalo, New York, is the largest privately held demand response provider in the United States and plans to use their proximity to the Canadian border to bring a successful demand response (www.powerpayontario.ca) programme to the province.

The transition into the international market was a natural choice as ECS joined the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association and received their Extra Provincial License, allowing them to expand into the Canadian marketplace.

ECS' programme is based on 'best effort' performances and never levies financial penalties against participating companies, with ECS bearing the risk of penalties. The programme provides for advanced notification when the electric grid becomes unstable and allows participants to choose their method of reduction. In exchange for agreeing to reduce electric when called upon (usually during the highest demand days of the summer), participants are paid significant dollars and further reduce their carbon footprint.

"We feel as though Ontario can benefit greatly from demand response programmes, especially a no-risk program, like PowerPay! Ontario (www.powerpayontario.ca)," said Glen Smith, president, chief executive officer, and co-founder of ECS. "We are excited to be able to take our program international."

In an effort to help their client base achieve their maximum performance level, ECS will provide at no cost to qualified participants, a demand response audit that will outline and suggest when and where energy can be saved with minimal effect on production levels. In most cases, participants will be able to view their facility's interval electric usage on the internet.
