Retired Armed Forces Veteran Launches Job Skills Program in the Nations...

United Training and Employment Center ("UTEC"), a 501 (c)(3), non-profit organization was established in the District of Columbia to stimulate job skills and enrichment programs for vulnerable populations in Urban America, including, among others, senior citizens, the unemployed (and under-employed), parolees and those discharged from the military.

"At a time when the cost of basic goods is skyrocketing, our infrastructure is decaying, and the American people are losing faith in the ability of their elected officials to make a difference in their everyday lives, we have to get back to the basics," says Clayton Roberts, Sr., the Chairman and Founder of the agency. "UTEC was founded on the principle that hard work, preparation and good-old fashioned common sense are the keys to economic empowerment and 'Seniors with Solutions' can and should be leading the way back to prosperity," Roberts added.

According to Roberts, UTEC is a career development, school referral and job placement agency, with a fundamental goal to:

* Work with proven academic institutions in providing job skills, training and support for senior citizens, parolees and those inextricably tied to the public benefits system due to an inability to find or hold jobs paying livable wages;

* Empower and enrich the lives of underserved populations by providing jobs skills, training and support for those who seem disenfranchised from the labor force for various socioeconomic reasons;

* Add skills training and job placement to the social services being provided by the Department of Human Services (Social Services), Department of Corrections (Parole & Probation) and the many Agencies charged with assisting Senior Citizens;

* Be the answer to the 'Crime Rate Rise' in our Nation's Capitol by "replacing guns and drugs with pencils and books".

"I am really excited about this extraordinary opportunity to bring help and hope back to our community. When employers and students visit our website, www.utecworks.net, it will be understood that we are interested in bridging the gap between our constituents and their desire to achieve long-term financial security, particularly within the African American, Latin American and Asian Pacific Communities," said Gloria Garcia, UTEC's Director of Human Relations and Public Affairs.
