Mr. Amir Dossal, Executive Director of the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships, will join over 100 business leaders at a reception in South Orange on November 2, to launch
the Transatlantic Business Council.
The Transatlantic Business Council, which is supported by a group of bankers, lawyers, senior business executives and academics from both sides of the Atlantic, has been established to
strengthen and promote bilateral investment and trade between New Jersey and the European Community.
The event will be at the historic home of Transatlantic Business Council President, Judith Sullivan, at 475 Berkley Avenue, South Orange, NJ, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday Nov.
2, 2006.
In today'ss global marketplace the newly formed council considers that building a meaningful dialogue with international markets is of prime importance for the economic health of the
State of New Jersey.
The council is an independent non-profit making organization whose vision is to create mutually profitable links between the New Jersey business community and its opposite numbers in the
European Community and the wider global marketplace.
Former New Jersey Commerce Secretary and Executive Managing Director of Cushman and Wakefield in New Jersey, Gil Medina, has been appointed Chairman and Judith Sullivan, from Emmet
Marvin, has been appointed President.
The formation of the Transatlantic Business Council coincides with Governor Jon Corzine'ss recent clarion call for the State to up its game in terms of attracting international
investment. In his recently published Economic Growth Strategy for the State of New Jersey 2007 he proposes the formation of an International Trade Policy Office to promote economic
growth through increased international commerce and foreign direct investments.
Says Judith Sullivan, President of the Transatlantic Business Council.
This is an important step change for New Jersey which, several years ago, closed its London office leaving it as one of the few US States without a European investment office.
The Transatlantic Business Council aims to support this important initiative to the hilt.
In the months leading up to the launch the Transatlantic Business Council, has worked closely with the White Rose Healthcare Innovation Partnership, a significant collaboration between
the British Government and York, Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield universities in the United Kingdom and Rutgers, Princeton, UMDNJ and NJIT here in New Jersey
A further initiative on the drawing board is the staging of a two-centre conference next summer in Reykjavik, Iceland and Kensington Palace, London at which lawyers, bankers, academics
and business executives from New Jersey will showcase investment opportunities in the state.
The Transatlantic Business Council is supported by its Founder Members including: HSBC Bank; Amper Politziner and Matia; Cushman and Wakefield, Fiore Associates; Marks & Clerk, Trien
Rosenberg; The White Rose University Consortium; the Worldwide Solutions Group; Bressler Amery and Ross and Square Mile Connections.
