Mothers Seek Work Life Balance Answer Found In Escape The Pace Book

May 2, 2005 -- According to Statistics Canada, 85 per cent of mothers who are employed outside the home report they are short on time and are conflicted with work/family responsibilities. In fact, the work/life and time-poverty issue is so widespread that movements such as Take Back Your Time Day in the U.S. are growing exponentially as people feel the effects of unbalanced lives. Generation X women (born 1965 - 1980) have fuelled the trend as their mother juggled work and family, and today's women experienced the pitfalls.

Lisa came across surprising statistics while researching her book, Escape The Pace: 100 Fun And Easy Ways To Slow Down And Enjoy Your Life. (Escape Pace Publishing; 2003; $21.95/ trade paperback; ISBN 0-9730452-3-X. She juggled work and family and became sick, so she looked for solutions and recorded them in a book. She found the answer to the work/life conflict - take a mini holiday. "This may seem ridiculous when you have an overflowing to-do list, but for mothers, it's critical," Lisa says. "When you take five minutes or an afternoon and do something for yourself, you de-stress and gain perspective about your life . You discover you can eliminate some errands and make time for things that really matter."

Lisa is a local columnist and a contributor for Canada's newest magazine, PURE Woman. Recently, she was mentioned in U.S. magazine, Woman's World. Her book is showcased at Book Expo America at the Jacob Javits Centre in New York on June 4-6th, 2005 and the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany later this year.

Escape the Pace has evolved beyond a "how-to" book to include an extensive website that offers products and services that support the philosophy of slowing down and taking time for oneself.
