Bob was a Protestant Horse a new book that mixes humour and religious difference in Northern Ireland.
The author, Michael McDonald was one of the stewards on the very first Civil Rights march in Northern Ireland in 1968. At the time he was teaching in Andersonstown, a Republican area of
Belfast. His view of Northern Ireland and its people was formed during repeated visits through his childhood.
Bob was a Protestant Horse is a 's8216;nearly true's8217; novel that describes the day by day activities through the summer of 1952. A time when everyone got on pretty well together and
the two traditions only hated one another when it was expected of them.
During the years of the recent 's8216;troubles's8217; I have been a management consultant working with the largest companies and organizations all over the world. Very often in the
evenings I would be asked, what is it really like in Northern Ireland Trying to explain to a group of English, Dutch, Saudi Arabians, Poles or Australians clients was always difficult and
I generally just told them a story or two of my time in Ireland.
This book was written over many evenings in many hotel rooms after such conversations.
