Advanced Radiation Therapy Center Opens on City Line Site OffersAdvanced...

People undergoing radiation therapy for cancer often need treatments every day for several weeks. While the treatment itself is painless, it is often inconvenient, and fears about its effects can add to one'ss stress. Now a new center offers state-of-the-art radiation therapy in an environment that is designed to feel more like a social club than a medical institution, all under the guidance of experienced cancer specialists.

The Radiation Oncology Center (ROC) in Bala Cynwyd specializes in treatment for prostate cancer. It features RapidArc's8482; radiotherapy, a new form of image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) that works with greater speed and precision. Image guidance improves tumor targeting, and IMRT shapes the radiation dose so that it conforms closely to the three-dimensional shape of the tumor. This delivers more radiation to the tumor while sparing surrounding healthy tissue like the bladder and rectum. It can also significantly shorten treatment time.

Our goal is to give patients the best chance for survival in an environment that provides peace, comfort and support, says ROC co-founder Dr. Phillip Ginsberg. We work closely with patients, families and physicians to determine the most effective course of treatment. We have experienced urologists on site at all times to answer questions, and offer support groups designed for men. By combining the convenience of a freestanding site with the technology, research, experience and support services associated with large institutions, we give patients the best possible experience.

Ginsberg and his partner, Larry Belkoff, DO., are board-certified urologists and volunteer faculty at Drexel University College of Medicine. They are extensively published and participate in numerous clinical trials. Radiation oncologists at the site hold academic appointments at Drexel. Many staff members are certified in their areas of expertise as well. The Center also offers a progressive office, including a complete electronic medical records system and a proprietary quality assurance program. These features and the office design are part of the ClubCare's8482; concept.

We are committed to a new vision of care that is centered on patients, says Belkoff. It'ss not just the destination that'ss important, but the journey as well.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in American men after skin cancer. For more information, contact the ROC at 610-632-4100. The Center is located at One Presidential Boulevard in Bala Cynwyd.
