New Line Media is pleased to announce the selection of Wake Radiology Oncology Services for its innovative, educational television series Pulse on America. This practice will be featured
in a segment on "The Best in Radiation Therapy" in the Coping with Cancer Series.
Located in Cary, NC, Wake Radiology Oncology Services is a community-based, freestanding cancer treatment center that not only offers state-of-the-art treatments, but also handles each
patient with care every step of the way. The philosophy is: the Power of Treatment is the Power of Hope.
Recognized for its innovative methods for the treatment of breast and liver cancers, Wake Radiology Oncology Services uses a comprehensive approach to radiation therapy treatments and
associated oncology care. Through the use of two ground-breaking techniques, MammoSite® Radiation Therapy and Yttrium-90 Microsphere Therapy, Wake Radiology can now give patients the
option of treatments that are more effective and better tolerated than previous radiation approaches. MammoSite® Radiation Therapy is a post-lumpectomy radiation treatment administered
through a catheter into the cavity of the removed breast tumor. This advanced technology internally treats a select area, sparing healthy tissue, and is administered in just five days.
Microsphere Therapy, a treatment for patients with liver cancer who cannot be treated by surgery or whose tumors are not responding to chemotherapy, is similar to MammoSite® Radiation
Therapy as a form of internally delivering radiation directly to the tumor. It too is administered through a catheter which localizes the treatment, destroying the cancerous cells close to
them while preserving the nearby healthy tissue.
These innovative treatments are administered by a team of radiologists, oncologists, nurses and technologists who work together to provide patient care that is second to none. They are
led by Dr. Andrew Kennedy, and Dr. Scott Sailer, Co-Medical Directors of Wake Radiology Oncology Services. There are also educational resources and the center recently completed its first
patient and physician educational videos that will be available on their website. And, with the receipt of grants to study new treatments for breast and colon cancers, Wake Radiology
Oncology Services will continue to be on the cutting edge of revolutionary cancer treatments.
In commenting on the mission and goals of Wake Radiology Oncology Services, Dr. Kennedy states; Cancer treatment isn t something most people understand unless they have dealt with the
disease - either as a patient or a care-giver. Here at Wake Radiology Oncology Services, our life work is helping people work through the challenges of cancer. We are pleased to share
insights and our resources with Pulse on America s audiences. And we remind ourselves every day that the combination of time and hope with a dedication to the most advanced science can
make a huge difference for those who have entrusted their well-being to us.
