Simi Valley Radiation Oncology Center Announces Installation ofVarian...



Simi Valley Radiation Oncology Center, a member of the Coastal Radiation Oncology Medical Group, has completed installation of a Varian 6EX Linear Accelerator. The EX machine is equipped to deliver Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and provides patients in the greater Simi Valley area with broader access to advanced cancer treatment technology and increased convenience.



IMRT and IGRT help improve the chances of controlling cancer by allowing the delivery of higher doses of radiation while limiting the side effects to the adjacent organs. This is very exciting technology. It has revolutionized the manner in which radiation is planned and delivered, said Dr. Victor Schweitzer, radiation oncologist at Simi Valley Radiation Oncology Center.



Dr. Schweitzer emphasized the benefits of increased availability and convenience of cancer therapy for patients in Simi Valley. He said, More patients can now stay in Simi Valley for their cancer therapy. Battling cancer is difficult enough. Having to drive distances to get treatment should not have to be a part of the battle.



Simi Valley Radiation Oncology Center is led by Dr. Schweitzer, board certified radiation oncologist, a partner physician who has been with the Coastal Radiation Oncology Medical Group for 12 years. The center has been part of the Simi Valley community for more than eight years. Dr. Schweitzer, who attended medical school, internship, and residency at UCLA, leads a compassionate and highly trained team of radiation therapists, physicists, dosimetrists and office staff in the delivery of state-of-the-art care to cancer patients.



Dr. Schweitzer continued, We pride ourselves on the compassionate care that the full team delivers throughout the entire treatment process.We are thrilled that our office has been recently renovated in order to create a warmer, calmer environment for cancer treatment, and that our recent technology addition allows us to better serve patients and treat a wide variety of cancer types.
