TrialStat Corporation, a clinical data management on demand company, today announced that the Ottawa-based Canadian Stroke Network (CSN) is using ClinicalAnalytics 4.0's8482; (CA), the
company'ss on demand electronic data capture (EDC) platform, for a Web-based registry of Canadian stroke patients. CSN selected TrialStat'ss CA because of its ability to evolve with the
changing research requirements of the national registry. In addition, CA provides research staff with an easy-to-use interface that allows users to extract and enter data simply and
quickly.
Called SPIRIT (Stroke Performance Indicators for Reporting, Improvement & Translation Project), the online registry enables healthcare professionals at different research sites to
collect data on stroke to help improve the prevention, treatment and recovery for 50,000 Canadians who suffer a stroke every year. Largely preventable and treatable, stroke is one of the
country'ss biggest public health issues and a leading cause of adult disability. The collected data will also allow clinicians and hospital administrators to have a better understanding
of the diagnosis and the management of stroke and to improve care and education for future stroke patients and their families.
CA provides us with a platform from which to expand and enhance the registry of the Canadian Stroke Network, said Dr. Kevin Willis, Acting Executive Director of the Canadian Stroke
Network. The feedback we have received from research staff has been positive. CA provides an easy-to-use interface that pulls information in a variety of different statistical and
graphical formats.
Our partnership with the Canadian Stroke Network will accelerate the collection and management of important research data for the organization'ss registry, said Jonathan Barker, President
and CEO, TrialStat. We are tremendously pleased to be supporting a national registry that will benefit research professionals and ultimately stroke patients themselves.
Dr. Patrice Lindsay, Performance and Standards specialist with the Canadian Stroke Network, said that TrialStat allowed CSN to be actively involved in the ongoing development of the
registry tool and, in the end, created something that we can easily build on. The tool easily adapts and grows with us without being overly complicated, she said.
Chelsea Hellings, SPIRIT project manager, said the response from healthcare sites using SPIRIT has been extremely positive. A lot of the feedback I have received has been that the
Web-based registry is clear and easy to use.
