Ceremonial Blessing of Surgeons Hands Highlights Dedication of The...

The Right Reverend Monsignor James P. Cassidy, PhD, President of the International Association of Catholic Healthcare Institutions and Consultant to the Pontifical Council on Healthcare, blessed the hands of Dr. Edward F. Lundy, Good Samaritan Hospital'ss Chief of Cardiac Surgery, at a ceremony heralding the dedication of The Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital, a state-of-the-art comprehensive cardiac and vascular surgical and care center, and the first program of its kind in the Lower Hudson Valley. The ceremony was attended by local and regional dignitaries, community leaders, physicians and other healthcare professionals, and leadership from area hospitals. The first open heart surgery procedure is scheduled to be performed at the Institute in early January.

The Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital will offer the most advanced cardiovascular procedures, including open-heart surgery, emergency angioplasty for acute heart attack, elective angioplasty to relieve potential blockages and a wide range of additional cardiovascular procedures.

The Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital is the culmination of a grassroots community effort to bring cardiac surgery to the region. Significantly, patients from the Lower Hudson Valley will now be able to remain with Good Samaritan Hospital and their families for virtually all of their advanced cardiac care instead of having to endure a transfer to an out-of-area hospital.

This is a defining moment for the Lower Hudson Valley -- an event that will forever change healthcare in our community, dramatically and positively impacting people'ss lives, commented Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital. The dedication was also attended by representatives of Active International, a marketing and business solutions company based in Pearl River, New York, that has agreed to create a series of fundraising activities designed to raise $2.5 million for the Institute.Alan S.
