Houston personal injury law firm Williams Kherkher has set up an informational resource center (http://www.williamskherkher.com) for people affected by the recent fire at a plastics manufacturing plant in Deer Park.
At approximately 7:15 AM Tuesday morning, a fire broke out in a furnace at the Oxy Vinyl plant just north of Texas Highway 225. Although the flames were quickly contained by automated
shutoff valves, a significant amount of black smoke was visible over the area.
Concerned about the possible spread of hazardous or toxic chemicals, officials at the plant ordered a shelter-in-place for north Deer Park. The order was lifted shortly afterward, once
officials determined that the presence of toxic substances was unlikely.
The Oxy Vinyl plant is located within the Shell complex along Tidal Road; it produces vinyl chloride monomers, used in manufacturing resin for many plastic products. According to
officials, the plant will be shut down while they investigate the cause of the fire.
