Sign Language Captioning in Spanish or English by LifeLinks LLC for Education of Deaf Children and Adults with limited English proficiency to be Available Free over the Deaf Club Web Si
June 9, 2005 -- For the first time ever, captioning in Spanish or English of
sign language educational videos will be available through LifeLinks and the Deaf Club. In addition, access will be available to deaf persons using a Windows PC or Apple Mac computer from the ClubDeaf website, www clubdeaf.com.
LifeLinks LLC, the forerunner in video-interpreting services to hospitals and the deaf community, has perfected educational videos in
sign language with closed captioning in Spanish or English. LifeLinks can provide captioning in other languages as well.
The applications to hospital inpatients, for pre-operative and post-operative instructions, outpatient clinics,ER's,patients awaiting discharge, etc.,are enormous. The recording can be made available "on the fly" or in a pre-planned fashion. Application to every form of education is clear and apparent, e.g. deaf university students recording lectures, deaf TV,deaf courtroom witnesses, jury members and attorneys, deaf physicians, etc. The videos will be available remotely, over the internet, as well as in hard copy format. The patient can be handed a CD with the healthcare provider's instructions in
sign language and captioned in their language. The only equipment needed is a computer, PC or Mac. The captioning will appear on the bottom of the screen in real time, simultaneous with the
sign language .
This fulfills a growing need to improve the quality of healthcare delivery, reduce unnecessary medical error and deal with ethnic diversity among both the deaf and hearing population. These issues are currently being studied by JCAHO and the AMA Committees on Quality of Healthcare Delivery and Ethnic Diversity.
