The HealthLight division of Bioremedi Therapeutic Systems, Inc. (BTS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Thomas J. Burke as chief science officer and medical director. Previously, Dr. Burke served as the director of research and clinical affairs for Anodyne Therapy LLC from 2000 to 2008.
Dr. Burke has been integrally involved in the groundbreaking research on the use of infrared light therapy to relieve pain, improve circulation and accelerate the healing process. He has
authored or
co-authored 12 peer-reviewed medical papers concerned with infrared light therapy and was principally involved in developing and/or evaluating research protocols implemented in the U.S.
and foreign countries concerning the effects of infrared light therapy.
Dr. Burke also authored a series of 12 articles on the healing effects of nitric oxide, which is the molecule known to be stimulated by infrared light therapy. This series, entitled
Nitric Oxide,
Its Role in Diabetes, Peripheral Neuropathy and Wound Healing, can be found at www.diabetesincontrol.com/writersarchives.php.
HealthLight is one of the leading firms in providing this non-invasive drug-free therapy for healing and pain management. Dr Burke will continue and expand further research into the
efficacy of this treatment. Although still considered experimental by Medicare, thousands of physicians recommend infrared therapy for their patients. Five thousand physical therapy
clinics, home health agencies and nursing homes continue to treat patients with infrared light therapy for pain, or lack of, and poor circulation often associated with diabetic peripheral
neuropathy.
HealthLight is committed to supporting all clinical providers and individual users of infrared light therapy, even those using competing products, according to Patrick Doyle, president of
Bioremedi Therapeutic Systems. We are especially interested in the cost savings to individuals with health problems that could benefit from use of our technology at home, especially for
those with chronic pain or circulatory problems, Mr. Doyle said.
Infrared light as a non-invasive, drug-free treatment may allow patients to reduce or perhaps eliminate the need for pain medications that often have debilitating adverse effects. The use
of home systems for treatment of the pain associated with various chronic conditions should be thought of as an adjunct to current therapy interventions.
