Move From Your own Wisdom Towards Health and Fulfillment

Arash Dastranj-Sedghi and Mige A. Germann launched Stillness Moves, introducing a new paradigm in the fields of fitness, exercise, holistic health and body mind spirit. In their workshops they shift the focus from specific methods and techniques to the actual process of discovery and integration.

Arash and Mige are movement instructors and bodyworkers with experience that spans from fields such as dance, yoga to subtle touch therapies. They conduct workshops teaching movement instructors, bodyworkers, physiotherapists, yoga practitioners, dancers and athletes in the USA, Europe, Asia and South Africa.

Through their emphasis on consciousness while teaching workshops, they developed insights in challenges and paradoxes that people encounter when approaching fitness and psychophysical systems such as yoga. The source of many of these challenges has often to do with people'ss approach to movement. They may treat it as a chore, like having to take the car for service or become goal-oriented and make it a struggle for success and achievement. Those who have neglected their bodies may one day wake and then face another arena of consumption where they are overwhelmed by the number of goods that are offered. They may have to try out many systems, never be satisfied and suffer other traps of consumer consciousness.

Arash Dastranj-Sedghi says: Since the necessity of physical activity has been removed from our lives many of our attempts to balance this may become artificial, boring, efficiency-oriented and sometimes very extreme. We often lose track of why we do all these practices. When we inflict pain and injury upon ourselves by forcefully practicing something that is supposed to be practiced with the spirit of non-violence to achieve health or peace, surely we defeat the purpose. Another example is the uninspiring repetitive movements that resemble assembly line activity in the early industrial revolution; such work has been taken over by robots in modern countries but people still do this as fitness in their time for recreation. This kind of fitness certainly will stimulate our physiology; however it numbs our sensitivity, it is joyless and it does not change anything even if we call them body mind spirit or holistic practice. A poor hamster in its cage turns the wheel out of necessity, yet if we take a moment and think we may realize that we do have a choice at least for our recreation, this is where we can step out of the rat race for survival, come out of the trance of consumption. The alchemy of transformation in our time doesn'st need to be a fat burning routine to fuel transmutation of our body to sculpted steel in 5-minute daily practice.

Stillness Moves invites the attention to the processes of our body, mind and emotions in guided and free explorations that stimulates curiosity for discovery. The idea is not to experience the body from an outsider'ss point of view looking at an object that has to be put through all kinds of manipulations to be maintained or changed. The quality of the intention, the color of emotions and their fluctuations are as important as the quality of the tissues, the rhythm of the breath, and the flexibility of the joints.

We observe how we travel through dullness, surges of activity, excitement and a sense of relief as we move. We observe how these relate to our physiological processes and how these processes propel us into movement and adjustments. We employ a great variety of techniques and methods without getting lost in their execution or expected results alone. It is of secondary importance how perfectly aligned we are while we move or remain in a certain position; yet it is essential to sense how we are trying to get there, since that is where we may find the key to arrive in that perfect alignment. We free ourselves from physical restrictions and psychological burdens when our own movement takes over. Even when applying a particular technique, the process is the same: the technique just brings us to a point when our own movement can emerge and unwind us from restrictions or claim the strength we seek, says Mige A. Germann.

Arash and Mige live and teach in Sedona, AZ. To find out more about Stillness Moves visit their web site www.stillnessmoves.com.
