In The Search for Kum Ba Ya (paperback, 978-1-60477-393-4; hardcover, 978-1-60477-394-1) author Patricia Knott looks at the African American experience from slavery to the present. She hopes to "build self-esteem and present a solution to problems encountered within the race as well as show the need of all races for a deliverer through comparisons to other enslaved or excluded cultures."

According to the author, the book "offers a fresh perspective on an issue that continues to plague our society despite the passage of time, laws and resolutions. Racism has affected both the black and white race in America." Through the African-American experience, she offers a "spiritual solution to this particular ailment that keeps each race from being all it can be" throughout the world.

Knott hopes that those "outside the race would come to recognize the anguish and psychological effects slavery and racial discrimination have had on the African-American population." She wishes those within the race would realize "their history had a profound effect on shaping the great nation we have today."

The author grew up in the segregated South where the remnants of Jim Crow persisted beyond the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That experience, she says, plus solid Christian teaching, has given her "a strong sense of God's love for every human being. Not one person is more important to Him than another when it comes to His desire to see them spend eternity with Him."
