Faith in the Face of Death 3 Ways to Keep Your Faith in God Strong During a Family Crisis
January 18, 2005 -- "God, where are you Why is this happening to me"
Have thoughts like these ever crossed your mind When disaster strikes, when someone you love has been diagnosed with a terminal disease or is battling a life threatening injury, your faith
may feel stretched to the max. But you can stay strong, even when your world feels like it's crumbling down.
"You
may feel like your world is in chaos," says Mike Moeller, author of Above the Clouds: The Miraculous Healing of a Little Girl (www.abovethecloudsministries.net), "but God is always in control. And He will never leave you to fight the battle alone."
Moeller speaks from experience. Several years ago his athletic eight-year-old daughter, Morgan, was suddenly struck with diabetes. Within hours, she was at death's door. She suffered significant brain damage and doctors said there was little hope. But Moeller and his family continued to pray and ask God to heal her. Miraculously, over the course of many months, Morgan began to recover in a way that completely defies all earthly logic.
Holding on to hope wasn't always easy, but the Moeller family refused to let their faith fold. Here Moeller shares three ways to help you keep the faith when times are tough:
1. Pray persistently. Jesus told his disciples to "always pray and not give up" (Luke 18:1). Also, ask others to pray for you.
2. Seek a support group. You will discover a wealth of understanding and reassurance from others who are dealing with similar issues.
3. Look for gems of joy. Find something - anything - that will make you laugh and momentarily lift your spirit. "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones" (Proverbs 17:22).
"Hang in there," says Moeller. "Just because you can't see God working behind the scenes doesn't mean He isn't there. Place your faith in Him and remind yourself that with Him, nothing is impossible!"
