Small South Florida Internet Radio Station Proving Popular With Christian Baby Boomers
January 18, 2005 -- Bucking the current trend of targeting younger contemporary Christian music listeners; PGM Radio Network has rapidly accumulated a loyal listening audience amongst aging Christian baby boomers by playing Jesus Music CCM Gold hits from the last 30 years.
When asked what prompted their starting a CCM Gold Hits Christian Internet radio station, PGM Radio's founders, William and Elaine Bateman responded; "It has always grieved our hearts that many of the Jesus Movement believers of thirty years ago have migrated away from the music they were encouraged in the faith by and have gone back to following the dead music from their past- country and rock and roll." He goes on to explain that, "Most of today's Top 40 AM/FM radio stations will not play the older songs for fear of losing their much sought after youth-oriented listener base. This has caused many of the older believers to migrate away from CCM and toward the only music they best relate to and most readily found on local radio stations- jazz, oldies rock or country music."
By reintroducing the music of well-known artist such as Don Fransisco, David Meece, The Imperials, Farrell and Farrell, Jamie Owens Collins, 2nd Chapter of Acts and Keith Green to name a few; the Bateman's hope to see many struggling aging Christian baby boomers return to thier first love, Jesus Christ through the music they best related to in their young walk in faith. At the same time, they hope to help those same artist get much needed exposure to their ongoing music ministry efforts worldwide by seeing a renewed interest develop in their original music and their latest compiliations.
PGM Radio is an acronym for "Pretty Good Music Radio" and represents the founders belief that most aging Christian baby boomers would gladly enjoy listening to the type of music they most fondly remembered in their earlier days, if they only knew it was readily available.
PGM Radio's founders are working on a syndication project that will become the basis for a reintroduction of Jesus Music and CCM to existing oldies rock and roll, country and Top-40 Christian stations across America. Their project is due to be released sometime within the next month.
