Pinkham Notch, NH July 13, 2006 -- The Mt. Washington Auto Road hosts their annual Climb to the Clouds Vintage Car Weekend, July 22-23, 2006. Held at the base of 6,288 ft Mt. Washington,
this unique event dating back to 1904 celebrates the rich 145-year history of the Auto Road. Climb to the Clouds is made possible through a collaborative effort between the Mt. Washington
Auto Road, the Vintage Sports Car Club of America and the Antique Automobile Club of America. Free and open to the public, the weekend features the famous vintage car hillclimb, classic
car show, Cruisin's8217; the Glen, and an opportunity to tour the White Mountains the old fashioned way.
The hillclimb was originally created by early auto manufacturers to showcase their new inventions. The steep and narrow Mt. Washington Carriage Road (known today as the Mt. Washington
Auto Road) was considered to be the ultimate site to prove the ability of these now historic vehicles. Recognized as one of America'ss oldest motorsports events, this hillclimb pre-dates
the Indianapolis 500. Nowadays, vehicles from 1970 and earlier race against time to the halfway point, approximately 4,500 feet above sea level. There is a practice run on Saturday, July
22 from 8:30-11:30am, with real time trials held on Sunday, July 23rd from 8:00-11:30am.
Organized by the Granite Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, the classic car show is held on Saturday, July 22, at the base of Mt. Washington's8217;s Auto Road. Featuring
cars built in 1970 and earlier, the show is from 10:00am - 3:00pm, with an awards ceremony at 2:30pm.
On Sunday, July 23rd, Crusin's8217; the Glen is a family event held from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Free and open to the public, this daylong activity has an abundance of barbeque food and amusing
entertainment for children. Cruisin's8217; The Glen also provides another occasion for the public to view classic cars on display open to all years, makes and models, and the Mt.
Washington Auto Road invites car enthusiasts of all types to drive their finest to the Glen for the weekend.
Also available on Sunday is an opportunity for people of all ages to engage in the ultimate old fashion entertainment- a Sunday afternoon drive. The Mt. Washington Auto Road has arranged
several driving tours around the Mt. Washington Valley for all to take pleasure in. Tours are self-guided, with Driving Tour Booklets available for purchase under the tent.
