As a member of the 5-member board, Dr. Mathews will review course content and syllabi, textbook selections, lesson and lab plans, and degree requirements for the Information Systems Security Program at Vatterott. The Advisory Board will continue to meet twice annually to provide guidance to the Information Systems Security Program, pursuant to guidelines established by the Department of Education requiring colleges to engage industry experts in the development of new degree programs.

Dr. Mathews has practiced nearly two decades in the field of information security and is considered an expert in many facets, including information security architecture, security and risk assessment, policy development and network security. Prior to co-founding CynergisTek in 2003, Dr. Mathews worked as the Chief Security Officer at Parkland Health and Hospital System and served as the Master Security Architect for Exodus Communications. In addition, he was the Senior Network Engineer for TRW Space & Defense, where he provided services to the United States Air Force and National Security Agency. Dr. Mathews is also the author of the VISA USA Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP) audit standard for third parties, the predecessor to today's Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. He has a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Tulane University, an MBA from Ashland University, and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and philosophy from Spring Hill College.
