Bellevue Chamber Chorus Presents A Child is Born

November 2, 2009 -- Start the holiday celebrations with glorious Christmas music from across the centuries as Bellevue Chamber Chorus presents A Child Is Born on December 5 and 6, 2009. Under the direction of Dr. Fredrick Lokken, the program explores the theme via several stirring renditions of the ancient text Puer natus in Bethlehem (A child is born in Bethlehem): as timeless, resonant Gregorian chant, then in a lively version by Renaissance master Michael Praetorius, and finally in a stunning arrangement for chorus and organ by contemporary American composer Leo Nestor.



To be transported further into the Christmas story, the venues will fill with more thrilling sounds from the Renaissance with di Lasso's8217;s joyful Angelus ad pastores ait [The angel said to shepherds and Costeley's8217;s charming Allons, gay Berg's232;res [Come, joyful shepherds), plus gorgeous contemporary works by William Hawley (O magnum mysterium), Brent Pierce (How Still He Rests), John Tavener (The Lamb), and Craig Courtney (Herself a Rose). Delight in traditional carols, both lively and poignant, in marvelous arrangements by renowned American conductors Gregg Smith (A Long, Long Time Ago), Dale Warland (Coventry Carol and Wexford Carol), and Mack Wilberg (Fum, Fum, Fum!). Don's8217;t miss this beautiful program of seasonal peace and joy which is sure to put everyone in the Christmas spirit!



Performances are Saturday, December 5, 2009, 7:30 PM, Bothell United Methodist Church, 18515 92nd Ave. NE, Bothell; and Sunday, December 6, 2009, 3:00 PM, First Congregational Church, 752 108th Ave., NE, Bellevue.
