In just five years, Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (FHCHS) has developed a reputation as a leading educator in the growing online learning arena. The College'ss two online
programs have seen significant growth since their inception, with nearly 1,000 students enrolled in the online programs in nursing and radiography.
The growth of our online programs in such a short period of time has exceeded our expectations, said Don Williams, Senior Vice President for Academic Administration. These programs
fulfill a need in healthcare for baccalaureate trained registered nurses and radiologic technologists. The online delivery helps Florida Hospital College reach more students than would be
possible if these students had to make trips to our campus.
Florida Hospital College is a premier educator in nursing and allied health. The College works closely with Florida Hospital, a 1,400+ bed medical center and the largest of more than 350
healthcare facilities worldwide operated by Adventist Health System.
FHCHS began offering online courses in 2001 with its Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS) program. The Program offers licensed imaging technologists an opportunity to
complete the BSRS in less than three years. Advanced degrees offer imaging professionals career growth and increased earning power.
The program began modestly with just 17 students in the spring 2001 semester, but within a year the program had grown to nearly 100 students. By year two, enrollment was over 200
students. FHCHS is projecting an enrollment of more than 600 students for the fall 2006 semester.
Similarly, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) online degree program has seen significant growth since its launch in 2005. This Program helps working Registered Nurses (RNs)
attain the education necessary for career advancement and salary increases. In just two years the program has grown from an entering class of 26 to a projection of more than 300 online
students enrolled for the fall 2006 semester.
To achieve such a high level of growth in a short time, FHCHS enlisted the help of another Orlando company, Compass Knowledge Group, Inc. or Compass. Compass provides end-to-end distance
learning services to the FHCHS online programs allowing the College to concentrate on delivering the degree courses.
Compass offers instructional services to help faculty create or translate FHCHS on-campus courses to the online learning environment. After the courses are online, Compass markets the
programs and recruits students for FHCHS. While students are in the program, Compass provides ongoing proactive retention support, addressing their needs to be a successful online
student.
The successful relationship between Compass and Florida Hospital College has led to a student retention rate of more than 90 percent and steady increases in student enrollment have been
experienced every semester.
