New Annual Georgia Teacher Certification Test Results Reports Available...



Government and independent research supports that preparing, recruiting and retaining great teachers is key to student academic success, and no state has worked harder than Georgia to ensure that its classrooms are led by qualified educators. To support this goal, the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and Pearson announced today that state educator preparation programs now have secure online access to annual Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators's174; (GACE's174;) test result reports for their program.





Pearson'ss teacher licensure testing group and the GaPSC worked closely with educator preparation program providers to design these new reports so they best meet their needs. Using these reports, faculty members at schools of teacher education can analyze program performance and identify any changes in the curriculum that might be needed to successfully prepare their students to become teachers.



At the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, we recognize that collaborating with our state'ss educator preparation programs is one of the best ways we can ensure that our prospective teachers possess the knowledge and skills necessary to best educate our students, said Kelly Henson, executive secretary. Working with the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson, we are using the power of online communications to provide all educator preparation program providers, including deans of colleges of education and their faculty members, with the information they need to ensure that their students are prepared to become teachers in our state.



The new report has been met with an enthusiastic response from faculty members and administrators from teacher preparation programs throughout Georgia.


This information is great for data reflections, and it can help us to diagnose issues in our content courses or indicate where we need to beef up our methods courses for teaching specific subjects, said Gregory Rushton, Ph.D., assistant professor, Kennesaw State University.



In addition, the Faculty Resources (www.gace.nesinc.com/GACE_faculty_resources.asp) area on the GACE Web site was expanded to include information about how to read and interpret the test results reports. Also, the GaPSC, in collaboration with Pearson, launched a series of free Webinars designed to help institution administrators and faculty members interpret and use the annual institution summary reports to enhance their teacher education programs and ensure that all candidates graduate with the knowledge and skills to successfully pass the state'ss certification exams.

By providing secure access to institution test summary reports and professional development for analyzing and using the data, the GaPSC has created yet another model for the teacher certification testing community to emulate.



The GACE Faculty Resources area is designed to help teacher preparation program faculty members confirm that their curricula are aligned with state, national and P-12 Georgia student standards, assist them in working with students who are preparing to test, and provide guidance in interpreting teacher candidate test results and applying test results for program improvement.



The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson developed and manages the administration of Georgia'ss overall teacher certification testing program for assessing the knowledge and skills of prospective public school educators.
