October 8, 2006 -- On Tuesday, October 10, 2006 from 10:30 AM until 2:00 PM, students, faculty and staff at Columbia College Chicago will have the opportunity to register on campus as a
new voter, get details about absentee ballots, or change your voting address. Four students from Columbia's8217;s Arts Management program have attended training certified by the State of
Illinois, and will serve as Deputy Registrars. Megan Minnaert, Lauren Gauger, Ashley Brown, and Ruth Mazur will be manning the registration booth, located in the Hokin Annex, from 10:30
AM until 2:00 PM. Adjunct faculty member, Monica Weber Grayless, presented the registrar training option for students in her Management classes to earn optional 's8220;Civic
Engagement's8221; credit.
's8220;I was so impressed by these volunteers that I joined them in the training on September 19th and will be there registering folks as well,'s8221; stated Grayless. 's8220;I also
thought this would make a great team-building project for my Event Production Management classes, jumping at the chance to manage the program and speakers at noon. It has really fired-up
the students who have chosen to take the lead.'s8221;
Local artists, special guests, and government officials are also invited to come and speak on the importance of voting, at the non-partisan, voter- focused open mic, in the Annex from
noon until one o's8217;clock. Refreshments and coupons sponsored by Pizza-Ria will be available during the lunchtime program.
Those who would like to register or change their address must bring two forms of identification- one picture ID and
a bill, lease or valid student ID with your current Illinois address. The entire Columbia College Community is encouraged to join this celebration of voter's8217;s rights.
