June 23, 2005 -- As part of an ongoing commitment to proactive environment, health and safety (EHS) management, AMCOL International Corporation (AMCOL) is deploying a Microsoft SharePoint
based EHS Management Information System (EMIS) across its 30 US facilities and 15 international facilities. The system is being rolled out in a phased project which includes Incident
Management, Compliance Management and Corrective/Preventive Action Tracking at all North American facilities by fourth quarter of 2005. International facilities in Europe and Asia will be
rolled out by the end of the year. Training Tracking, Audit and Industrial Hygiene components are scheduled for implementation in 2006.
The fully web-based system is being implemented by Knowledge Management Innovations, LLC (KMI) and utilizes integrated Microsoft technology including SharePoint, SQL Server and ASP.NET.
According to Kelvin Roth, AMCOL Corporate Manager of EHS, "We selected SharePoint as the platform for our EMIS based on its flexibility, scalability and cost. We selected KMI for the
implementation based on their extensive experience and unique tools for transforming SharePoint into a highly functional, industry leading EMIS. They helped us effectively meet the
different requirements of EHS, IT and business. Our system has been fully supported by all three groups and other business units are adopting parts of the system for their own, non-EHS
use."
The Microsoft SharePoint Services license is included with the Windows Server 2003 license. SharePoint enables companies to deploy an intelligent IT infrastructure that seamlessly
connects users, teams, and knowledge so that employees can take advantage of relevant information across business processes to help them work more efficiently. SharePoint enables flexible
access to data through user controlled sorting, filtering and graphing capabilities. The comprehensive EMIS focuses on proactive safety and regulatory compliance management through
performance measurement and analysis, the analysis of trends and repeat incidents, and by making best practices and lessons learned fluid across all global locations.
