Atlanta, GA June 30, 2005 -- Big Nerd Ranch Announces the Analysis and Design Workshop with John Graziano August 15-19, 2005. Arrive with a spec, go home with the beginnings of really
good design.
In its continuing dedication to providing Mac and Open-Source developers with exceptional experiences, the Big Nerd Ranch announces the Analysis and Design Workshop, led by former Xcode
technical lead John Graziano. The intensive, all-inclusive, 5-day workshop will guide you through the process of designing software that closely models the domain so that it is more
resilient in the face of changing demands and requirements. Graziano's techniques, honed since the workshop's inception in 1992 at NeXT, have helped a multitude of development teams
deliver working, successful software from the ground up. For developers with an understanding of the basic object-oriented concepts, the Analysis and Design Workshop provides the bridge
to improved development of medium- to large-scale software systems.
The workshop is practical and hands-on, with extended exercises from several common problem domains. Attendees are also strongly encouraged to bring examples and specs from their own
application domains. Over the week, they will develop designs for their domain in the course's dynamic, real-time modeling sessions.
John Graziano's training pedigree stretches both broad and deep. He developed his OOA&D training techniques working with NeXT clients in the early 1990s. Since then, he's applied
these techniques to his work as the technical lead on Apple's Xcode Development Environment, architect on WebObjectsBuilder, and as a principal architect of the next-generation animation
software at Pixar, where his OOA&D methods are still in use. Graziano teaches "abstraction-oriented development," a technique which treats objects and APIs as a communication medium
and works to make them as clear and efficient as possible. With a practical, results-oriented approach, students are producing working analysis documents by the second day of the
workshop.

In describing the need for an Analysis and Design Workshop, Graziano said, "Many people will tell you how to create a design. In this workshop, you'll learn how to create a good design.
The experience covers all the latest ideas in analysis and design: patterns, use-cases, aspects, and refactoring. But unlike most courses, which only define these concepts, we explore how
they map to real-world problems."
Said Aaron Hillegass, Cocoa Instructor and founder of the Big Nerd Ranch, "Because of our own development experience, we expect John's workshop to be wildly popular. Through our Cocoa
development for Big Nerd Ranch consulting clients, we've used John's methodology with great success. We've found a natural progression from becoming a great programmer to a need for great
analysis and design. John's timely arrival on the Big Nerd Ranch schedule of classes will give many of our alumni exactly what they're seeking."
