UK Based Startup Claims 100 Success Rate at Stopping Spam email

February 1, 2005 -- Clearmymail.com based in rural Northamptonshire, has claimed to offer what could be the worlds first complete answer to the problem of spam e-mail.



Dan Field, the founder of ClearMyMail.com started work on the new system in 2002 after struggling to cope with the 400+ junk e-mails received every day to his multiple e-mail accounts. After trying several spam filters, he soon discovered that whilst some cleared a good majority of spam there was also the problem of occasionally losing legitimate e-mail - often called a false positive.



The problem with traditional spam filters is that they base their classification of e-mails on a set of rules. Although over the last 2 years these spam filtering rules have evolved and often offer very high success rates, this still comes with the problem of false positives - where the software incorrectly decides an e-mail is spam.



The new solution to the problem seals off the customers mailbox from the outside world, and by asking the user to give permission to which senders can and cannot e-mail the customer, it completely stops junk e-mail whilst still giving the flexibility to receive e-mails from new unknown senders who have a legitimate message for the customer.



By working at the network level, junk e-mail is stopped even before the customer has downloaded their mail. This saves both time and network bandwidth. This network level architecture also means that the customer has no software to install, and the system works equally well on Apple Macs, PCs, Linux or any other operating system.



This 'sealing off' of the individuals mailbox can also act as a parental filter - giving parents the control of who can and cannot e-mail their child.



The system is described as similar to having your very own personal secretary who checks your mail for you - discarding the spam, asking you about any new senders, and giving you direct access to all legitimate messages.
