BUILDER, the number one information source for the home building industry, announces the launch of www.BuilderLivingHome.com to provide information about its latest show home. The BUILDER LivingHome will be built on the exhibit floor at the 2009 International Builders's Show (IBS) in Las Vegas (January 20-23) and will be open for free guided tours to the more than 80,000 building industry professionals attending IBS.
The BUILDER LivingHome is the 11th show home produced by the magazine in the host city of the annual convention and the second to be constructed on the exhibit floor. The Web site, hosted
as part of Builder'ss existing builderonline.com web site, is a comprehensive source of information about the project, including time-lapse photography of the build, 3D rendered tour of
the home and its sponsors, profiles of the project team, a blog covering the home'ss off-site fabrication, and articles about the project from Builder magazine. A webinar about the
home'ss concept and features will be posted in December, followed by episodes of BuilderTV regarding the home'ss fabrication and the finished product, among other topics.
Builders who are serious about providing sustainable housing need even more information and options, which this year'ss show home promises to deliver, says BUILDER editorial director
Boyce Thompson.
The home was adapted from a design commissioned from KieranTimberlake and is being built by Profile Structures, Inc. for LivingHomes, LLC, a developer of sustainably designed
prefabricated homes. During design and production, LivingHomes evaluated the sustainability (including embodied energy) of the home'ss structural components, and in-house architect Amy
Sims vetted the finishes to comply with the builder'ss commitment to sustainability - including a product'ss durability and affordability. We want to show builders that green can be
profitable for them, she says. There can be a significant upcharge to build green, but there doesn'st have to be.
The result of that evaluation process is a full slate of sustainable products, materials, and finishes - most of them sponsored or donated by leading industry manufacturers - that
demonstrates not only the breadth of the market but also the mainstream marketability of green products and systems.
