The National Home Improvement Contractors Association NHICA established...

The National Home Improvement Contractors Association (NHICA) today announced its official opening of the organization. The NHICA was established by industry executives and companies to represent contractors, trade professionals and businesses of the home improvement industry.

"We saw a void and dissatisfaction in the home improvement industry. AARP represents a market, AAA represents a market, but there is nothing for the home improvement market as a whole. Consumers are looking for quality professionals, contractors are looking to grow their business and separate themselves from the fly-by-night, unethical companies, and the manufactures and retailers are looking to get their products and services in front of quality buyers," said Mark Bold, president of NHICA, "And nobody is representing this great industry." In a nearly $300 billion a year industry, "Our mission is to two fold; the chief among all goals is to provide opportunities for all consumers to have a safe, decent and affordable home improvement experience. Second, we aim to enhance the success of our members by promoting professionalism, quality workmanship and products, and ethical business practices." NHICA is also hoping to get backing and support from retailers, manufactures and other firms. "We want their support, involvement and feedback in this," says Mr. Bold.

NHICA has an ambitious growth strategy. They hope to recruit over 10,000 members in one year. To help accomplish this goal, NHICA has been partnering with companies to provide Contractor Members with savings and discounts, a free website for new members, and more. Virtually any home improvement company can apply for membership. Contractor Members range from landscaping and plumbing companies to remodeling and builders. "We have listened to trade professionals and understand what they need, what they want" says Robert Withrow, chief operations officer at NHICA. "We educate consumers of the quality of our members. We develop and give members a custom web site at no cost. We allow consumers to submit a request for service for the members they choose and we fax or email that lead in real-time to that member at no cost, and much more. This is just an example of the feedback we have received and have implemented."
