Making an important purchase can be very costly, especially if it happens to be in another country and you have to rely on the sellers honesty and good judgment for details of your purchase. Not only should you worry about purchases abroad from unknown parties, you should also beware of frauds occuring wright at home even some banking frauds that are taking place wright now. Several banks are now being targeted such as the Royal Bank Of Canada with branches in the US, here is their story;
Important Notice: Fraud Advisory, beware of Unsolicited "phoney" e-mails .. Royal Bank Of Canada.
Be cautious of "Brand Spoofing" e-mails and web sites coming from parties pretending to be real companies that request personal or financial information. Customers are led to believe the request is from a real company when in fact it is a malicious attempt to collect customer information for the purpose of committing fraud.
How it works
Customers receive an unsolicited email appearing to be from a legitimate company.
The e-mail claims that a billing error or account problem has occurred or that the customer can enter a contest to win a prize. Other enticements may be used.Customers are asked to follow instructions that will take them to a Web site that appears legitimate, complete with a company's brand name and corporate colors.
Customers are asked to provide updated personal and financial information by completing an online form. The form requests a variety of information such as credit card numbers, account numbers, passwords, date of birth, drivers license number, and social insurance or social security numbers. There may be a risk associated with the request. For example, customers are asked to submit the information or risk having their account suspended or terminated.
Tips to help you identify and respond to these potential "Brand Spoofing" e-mails or web sites:
Never provide sensitive personal or financial information such as a credit card number, account number, driver's license number, or social insurance or social security number in response to an e-mail. Look for misspelled words either in the message or in the hyperlink if one is provided. "Brand Spoofing" scams often contain misspelled words. If the e-mail requests that you click a link provided in the message, check the address to help determine if it is legitimate. Sometimes, the link does not resemble the company's actual name at all. At other times, it is very similar but may still appear suspicious.
If a link is provided in the message, do not click it because it may take you to a fraudulent Web site. Instead, type the company's Web address in the address bar of your browser. If you don't know the address, use a search engine and search for the company's name to help you locate it. Once on the site, search for any information, bulletins or notices that convey the same message provided in the e-mail you received. These high tech frauds are raking in hundreds of thousands don't get spoofed!
Auction fraud
Always check out the seller before you bid. Some auction sites have feedback forums with comments about the sellers based on other people's experiences. Be aware that positive reports may have been "planted" by the seller and negative comments could be from a competitor. Negative information is a good warning sign, but a clean complaint record doesn't guarantee that your transaction will go smoothly.
Beware of "shills." The seller may try to raise the price artificially by making bids under fictitious names or recruiting other people to make bids. Using bogus bidders is illegal and a violation of online auction policies.
Get the name and contact information of the seller. Don't do business with anyone who refuses to provide that information! You should get the name, physical street address, email address, and phone number from the seller and you should verify the information.
There are many varieties of auction fraud.
Here is an example:
Criminal claims to be selling a highly desirable object (laptop computers, motorcycles, and cars seem to be popular) for a price that seems too good to be true.
Criminal obtains sufficient information about victim to place an InExchange order victim's name using a legitimate exchange service.
Victim unwittingly remits payment believing the exchange service to be the entity selling the [laptop, car, motorcycle, whatever].
Exchange service unwittingly accepts remittance and fulfills exchange, not knowing that the individual who remitted payment is not the person who placed the exchange order.
If the exchange order is non-repudiable, the exchange can't be reversed once fulfilled and you will lose your money. By using a private personal assistant you can cut away any doubt because your assistant will be on site with the seller, shipping company and whoever else would be required for a successful transaction.
Fraudulent Escrow Services And online Auctions Can Cost You Dearly As Many Have Discovered!
Please be aware that there are criminals at large claiming to offer escrow services.
Please perform your own due diligence before using any escrow service. Personal private assistants can do this work for you on site overseas making sure that the item you are purchasing actually exists and it's ownership.
How escrow fraud works:
The victim finds the deal of a lifetime at an online auction site. Laptop computers and luxury cars seem to the most popular items.
After
the victim has won the auction the seller suggests using an escrow service to act as an intermediary for the sale of the item.
The seller knows that suggesting an escrow service in most cases will instill a sense of trust by the buyer.
The seller and the person operating the fraudulent escrow site are the same criminal.
The victim visits the fraudulent escrow site and signs up for their services.
The criminal emails
the victim phony escrow transaction information and gives
the victim detailed instructions on how to open and fund the account.
The criminal instructs
the victim to send an email as soon as the account is funded.
The victim emails the criminal to let them know their new account has been funded. The criminal then creates a phony account and emails the account number back to
the victim with instructions on how to deposit into his / her account.
The victim makes the deposit and never hears from the escrow service again.
Your money and your purchase are both lost so beware, this is where a private personal assistant can and will save you money. Firstly, the item up for auction, usually overseas will be physically verified that it exists and to whom it belongs. Secondly, if there is an escrow service involved, your personal assistant will make sure that it is a legitimate service and if it is recognized by the local authorities, including their track record. These are just some of the things a personal private assistant can do for you.
Here are some clear examples of typical frauds!
The Dentist And Gadget Lovers Got Spoofed As Well From Thousands To 10's Of Thousands!
Purchasing of items blindly can be time consuming, frustrating and extremely expensive if you do not receive the goods you contracted for as in the case of the high tech tv's. A few thousand dollars in this case, but well planned on line purchasing frauds can cost the unsuspecting victims tens of thousands of dollars as in the case of a Miami dentist who purchased a BMW overseas at a bargain price of some $85,000.00 US. The customer did everything to assure that his purchase would go smoothly which included depositing the payment and shipping charges with a fairly well known escrow service in Europe, but despite all the customers efforts, he still was de-frauded of all his money. After the authorities investigated his claims, the police discovered that no BMW existed and the escrow services web site was a cloned copy of the legitimate companies web site, which today is becoming a major problem on the worldwide web, in fact personal banking web sites have been spoofed. Our suggestion is to always go to the site address by typing it into your address bar and avoid clicking on links in email messages which can be misleading, for example; a secure site should be either locked down with the padlock showing up in the lower right hand corner of your quick launch bar or the page address should start with HTTPS:// .. instead of just HTTP:// Some other secure methods are forms and pages which actually reside on secure servers where the cache is cleared once you leave the page.
Need something purchased abroad on your behalf .. we can do it. Looking for a special item .. we will try and find it for you, and the list goes on, as your personal private assistants we work for you 24 / 7 / 365 worldwide, helping you to avoid some of the inherent pitfalls of online autions, special buy now deals and costly transactions which are done sight unseen! For example; Here is a story about an eBay offering that involved a 19-year-old Florida teen who offered high-tech TVs for sale on eBay at prices ranging between $1,500 and $5,500. He collected nearly $12,000 from customers. In turn, they got photos of the TV instead of the real thing, according to a report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Here are a few more examples of why you should use a personal assistant to assure that you are getting what you are paying for and please beware of photo descriptions, todays technology allows everyone with a computer to doctor up photo images any way they like, read the next paragraph and you'll see what we mean.
Recently we visited Marseilles France to inspect a time share property for a client, when we arrived it was nothing like the air brushed, touched up photos our client received as a brochure and at $4200,00 US per month this condo time share could have looked good in a bombed out area of Iraq but for all intents and purposes not worth more than $420.00 per month, sleeping bags not included. Suffice to say, our client saved $8400.00 US which was the first and last month of a 3 month time share and of course, the condo owner needed payment in advance!
Some More Photo Brochures from Florida Showed what was Projected and what Could Have Been:
Buyer beware, in the late 80's early 90's selling swamp land in Florida was in vogue, land that was not usable by anyone for any reason unless you were an alligator hunter. From what we have been told, only a few less than 10% of these land buyers actually visited their perspective vacation properties in Florida before they paid up, and finally when they did visit the property and spoke with the sellers, it was a matter of only a few months before the swamp was drained and ready for construction of the promised luxury developments folks, that's more than 20 years ago and the alligators still own the land. Today the practice of dupping people still goes on, but now it's all done high tech!
We also do comprehensive property surveys, please see our site for more details.
We consider our customers privacy to be the number 1 goal along with 100% satisfaction in our very unique and timely service.
